SOMEWHERE EXERCISING QUALITY CONTROL (SP) -- I confessed yesterday to substandard work. Below is the original, bad, drawing for the SportsPage Dallas cover that, faced with a looming deadline, I was tempted to turn in. I didn't care at all for the generic cartoon sports fans and the drawing of God was so simple that it's only a line or two removed from a stick figure. God deserves better, I thought.
I always figure you play to your strengths, and I do decent caricature work. So I decided to go with known athletes representing each sport. I knew that the article referenced Dirk, Romo and Turco -- so I went with those three. The black and white of the new and improved cartoon is below. The final, color version is in yesterday's post.
