SOMEWHERE RAINING ON PARADES (SP) -- I get home from basketball last night around 10:30, knowing I have an art deadline this morning for cover art for SportsPage Dallas (a weekly sports tab) ... I sketch some ideas for about 90 minutes and come up with nothing. NOTHING.
I finally give up and go to bed. I wake up at 6 am and hastily draw a cartoon of God reading the sports page while it rains on generic cartoon Dallas sports fans. I scan it and am faced with the harsh reality that it is really a piece of shit. So I walk the dog and return to the house. It's now 8 a.m. and I have nothing. I decide to go with recognizable sports figures and a better all around drawing. By 8:15 it's inked and scanned (Thank God I didn't stumble on the Marty Turco likeness). Colored by 8:35. E-mailed a few moments later, beating the 9 a.m. deadline by a good five minutes.
Yes, God has a Laz-E-Boy cloud.
