SP's In-Depth College Football Preview: Oklahoma

By Brick Stevens
SP College Football Analyst

Today's we're taking an in-depth look at No. 4 Oklahoma. Super soph QB Sam Bradshaw, the most efficient signal caller in the country last season, will be throwing to all the receivers he's loved before, led by Senior -- or should I say Senore' -- Julio Iglesias.

Yes, the offensive and defensive lines will line up and hit someone and the backfield's in motion in Bob Stoops' 10th season in Norman -- a year that could end with Stoops celebrating an undefeated season and another Oklahoma national championship. Or they could lose a couple games.

That's our in-depth look at Oklahoma. Next up: No. 3 Ohio State.

Top-Ranked Georgia Falls to Russia

By Brick Stevens
SP College Football Analyst

This commentator wants to know what Russia's weekend pounding of top-ranked Georgia does to the Bulldogs' BCS chances?

I was too caught up in the fake pageantry of the Beijing Olympics to catch the game, but I hear the Russkies beat Georgia so badly that even President Bush was calling on the Soviets to show mercy.

Today's headlines read "Rice to Visit Georgia." This commentator thinks a game against Ben Braun's Owls should help the Dawgs get back on track. But if Mark Richt thought Russia's flex offense was tough, wait until he faces Tim Tebow running Urban Meyer's attack when Florida visits Athens on Nov. 1.

Sure, Death is a Bad Injury

SOMEWHERE READY FOR THE PUCK TO HIT THE ICE (SP) -- How tough are hockey players? Consider this exchange on Dallas sports/talk station, The Ticket, between the station's morning show and new Stars winger Sean Avery:

TICKET: What's the worst injury you've had?
AVERY: Well, I almost died.

(Avery had a lacerated spleen last season, played another period with internal bleeding and spent the following six days in intensive care).
