SP's In-Depth College Football Preview: Ohio State

By Brick Stevens

SP College Football Analyst

Let's take a closer look at No. 5 Ohio State. The 2-0 Buckeyes have dropped two places in the polls since the season started and they play USC this weekend in Los Angeles, a game they have no chance of winning. At this rate they should be out of the Top 20 by the time they play Illinois on Nov. 8.

That's the bad news. The good news is the Buckeyes will roll over Michigan and then sit idle for two months while all the good teams knock each other off in conference championship games. At the end of the season, Tressel's team will be ranked No. 2 and will get throttled in the national championship game.

That's our in-depth look at Ohio State. Next up: No. 1 USC.

Steve? No man. Steve's not here.

SOMEWHERE WANDERING THE DESERT ... LOOKING FOR NEW FRIENDS (SP) -- From today's story on the death of Ultimate Fighting Champ Evan Tanner ...

"Lt. George Moreno of the Imperial County Sheriff's Department has reported that Tanner set out treasure hunting on Wednesday, Sept. 3, asking friends to call for help if he didn't return right away. Lt. Moreno says friends called the Sheriff's Office on Friday, Sept. 5, and search and rescue teams looked for him throughout the weekend in temperatures up to 114 degrees."

If I told you to call for help if I didn't return right away, you'd know that by "right away" I meant, um, "right away" ... right?
